9 Month Portrait
We always have fun at our portrait sessions but I especially look forward to seeing this handsome guy. I've love seeing how he changes: from a teeny tiny newborn to a determined and super quick nine month old. Plus he has the best family! A Toast To 2008
I've had a great first day in '08 and I hope you have too. My husband started the year off on the right foot by surprising me with a gift. New Year's Eve is the anniversary of our first kiss...14 years ago! And the snow here in Indiana is absolutely picture perfect so I just couldn't pass up the 0pportunity to get the kids outside for some portraits.
Coming in January: a new album (I just love it!) and the very popular image of the year contest.

Snow Sessions
Here in Indiana and Michigan we've had our first blast of winter. And while some people think winter isn't for outdoor portraits, I love the opportunity to photograph in the snow. A nice blanket of freshly fallen snow provides such a scenic background.
Now, I'm not saying a snow session is for everyone! It's really geared more toward the adventurous type and seems to be quite popular with kids as well as high school seniors...and even the brave family. Snow sessions are a bit different as we typically bundle up in hats, scarves, boots and mittens. Often there are blankets just out of the frame and sometimes even included in the portrait. Remember to bring along some steamy hot chocolate or a mocha to keep toasty. Several snow sessions have already been scheduled and we may run a *Snow Special* in January 2008. Keep reading for more details.

Little Trooper
This handsome guy was a total trooper as we brought him outside in the chilly fall temps. The country setting complete with red barn and leaves all around made for the picture perfect setting for portraits. Don't you just love those expressions!

Family Fun
Happy Thanksgiving! Okay, so I'm a day (almost two) late with my holiday wishes but I was enjoying a tasty turkey dinner...and resting after a high energy session with a group of charming and charismatic people. I just adore this lively family full of fun, laughter, and personality.

Hello Austin, Texas
I haven't even unpacked my suitcase from a super quick trip to Austin, Texas. This mini vacation was a quick way for me to recharge as the holiday season at Tonya Marie Photography is in high gear. A few highlights of the trip include yummy authentic Mexican food at Guero's and a stroll through the botanical gardens at Zilker park.
Other highlights include visiting with some repeat clients. I'm pretty sure these super cool brothers keep their parents on their toes with all of their energy and enthusiasm. But I was quick enough to catch a few frames while they were holding still.

And these two sisters just couldn't possible be any sweeter. They have the best manners: calling me *Miss Tonya*, responding *yes ma'am*, and even reminding me not to forget my water bottle. And to top it all off, they are absolutely gorgeous!

And for all of you asking about future sessions, we will be adding at least a few more visits to Austin in 2008. Check back here for specific dates (possible June) or give me an email if you are interested in reserving your Austin session.

Happy Veterans Day
Sending out a big thank you out to all of the courageous Veterans who served for our country. Thanks! Sending some extra love to one of my favorite Vets who happens to be in the hospital but is on the mend.

Autumn Day With Miss *A*
A beautiful autumn day+an adorable (almost) 2 year old=an amazing session. We visited the Kalamazoo Nature Center, one of my favorite locations, and enjoyed the fall color. We also enjoyed the lively entertainment provided my Miss *A*...who happens to be a great singer and dancer. I don't know how it's possible but every time I see her, she's even more adorable! Check out those seriously sweet brown eyes and those precious curls.

Trick Or Treat
I just want to quickly wish all of the little munchkins a safe and Happy Halloween!
On a side note: The postal delivery to our new home in Indiana seems to be a bit slower than we are used to. I just received mail today that was postmarked in Michigan on the 24th...that's 7 days!
But I do have to say I have the best mail carrier. He takes exceptional care of the (many) portrait orders coming and going from my home. Thank you!

Not Portraits
I very much prefer photographing babies, kids, high school seniors and families, but I think it's good to step out of your comfort zone on occasion. The fall color was vibrant at Pokagon State Park...a great place to enjoy a sunny warm afternoon.

And pets are often an important part of family life. I'm glad I captured these felines for a very special friend. Enjoy.

The Color Red
The number eight. And a puppy. These are a few of this almost 4 year olds favorite things. I guess it was a good thing I had to drive the red “race car” to the session instead of the mommy mobile.
We enjoyed a game of soccer, a ride in the golf cart, and even a red delicious apple. Little sister even got in a little beauty rest before her camera time. You definitely can't miss their beautiful blue eyes!

Thanks Mother Nature
After a week with mostly dreary skies, Mother Nature really pulled through weather wise with a beautiful weekend complete with warm temps and even (finally!) some peeks of vibrant fall color.
This super fun family session includes an exchange student from Germany. Watching the guys ~~wrestle~~ interact was quite entertaining. By the end of the evening I was laughing so hard I had to really concentrate on holding the camera steady.

Dear Mother Nature,
I’m sure your schedule is very busy…especially with Father Time giving us these shorter days now, but I think you forgot to turn off the switch for summer? It’s October and a high temperature of 88* in Indiana just isn’t conducive to those fall portraits I like…you know the ones with hats and scarves and the gorgeous fall color. Is there any chance we can put the short sleeve shirts in the back of the closet and get out the cable knit sweaters?

Newborns, Children, Seniors
And now families. I can now officially say I love working with families just as much as newborns, kids, and seniors. I used to think that I didn't love working with families. I'm not quite sure why because I'm really having an amazing time photographing families, watching their unique dynamics, and trying to capture *them*. An Indoor Day

A Family Session
...with two toddlers. Call me crazy, but I was really looking forward to this session today. 'Tis The Season
Yes, that's right...it's family portrait season at Tonya Marie Photography. We have lots of family sessions booked during the next few months and my schedule is almost filled up for the remainder of 2007. Alright, on with the sneak peek...This is the *K* family and they are awesome! Dressed to perfection using the *matching but not* philosophy, they let me work a little bit outside of the box.

This image is not for everyone. My husband doesn't *get it* and I'm sure some of you won't either, but sometimes I have to shoot images that speak to my artistic side.

Mission: Unpack Angola
Mission: Incomplete. We are making our way through the boxes and finally found the bolts to put my son's bed together. Coming To You Live From Angola, Indiana

Goodbye Kalamazoo
Hello Angola, Indiana. My family and I are finally moving out of my parent's Kalamazoo house. We lived with my parents for 7 months...yes, you read that right 7 months!
Don't worry! There won't be too many changes at Tonya Marie Photography. The main change is I will no longer be accepting new portrait clients in the Grand Rapids area (existing clients are always welcome to give me a call for a session!). However, if you would like to meet in South Haven for a session you are in luck.
I will still be photographing clients in the following areas: Kalamazoo, Portage, South Haven, Battle Creek, Vicksburg, Schoolcraft, Sturgis, and Coldwater areas. And will now be accepting new clients in Indiana including: Angola and the surrounding areas.
I thought the following portrait was especially fitting!

Oh, and a big shout out to our realtor Ken who showed us no less than 822 houses. Okay, not really. But we saw a lot!

Dark Clouds + Sweet Senior = Awesome Session

So many people show up for their sessions and are disappointed when the skies are filled with clouds. The truth is, we really don't need bright and sunny weather. And this is a great thing because we've had a lot of rain recently. We were glad to have the umbrellas along because we needed them!

Besides our brief rain episode, this session was just perfection. Fabulous locations. Great skies. Beautiful senior. And she really is the sweetest girl.

Oh Deer!

We saw lots of deer at the gorgeous property where we had a senior session tonight. None of them decided to join us...although they did wander close enough for us to see the white speckles on the fawns.

So I found this yellow chair. There's a funny story to it but I'll try to keep this short by saying thank you to J&G who helped me out when I couldn't fit it in the car I was driving. And just as I thought, this chair is photographic perfection...especially with a subject as lovely as *T*!

Cool Guy
I got to hang out with a really cool guy tonight. We did a lot of fun and unique senior portraits and the session just flew by! The studio shots were a blast...check out that saxophone! Then we headed outside to some cool locations. See the fun reflection?

No, silly. It's not a radio station (well, maybe it is!). You would never have guessed the thermometer at ~~my house~~ my parent's house read 105.3 earlier ~~today~~ yesterday.

Despite the heat, we all had a great time. I felt like I left the session with two new friends. And this senior really had it together. Fierce blue eyes, awesome personality, just a pleasure to work with. Her mom did an amazing job too. Thank you!

Brothers at the Beach
These handsome brothers came all the way from Chicago for their beach session...and what a fun session it was! The first image is from the very first click of the camera. I guess they didn't need much time to warm up to me. Their energy and enthusiasm really shine here. And the last is at sunset after we took a little break for a quick game of cornhole/bean bag toss (notice the gorgeous light!).

Senior's Sparkle
I couldn't resist adding another gem from this session. We timed the session perfectly and were able to take full advantage of the light. The sun flare captured here is not a photoshop technique but was intentionally created as I was shooting.

Priceless Expressions

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this brown eyed beauty at her 6, 9, 12, and now 18 month milestones. It has been a pleasure to see her adorable personality traits develop. She’s such a vibrant, charming, curious bundle of enthusiasm. And the expressions we captured are just priceless.

The Toughest Job
...you'll ever love. I don't know who said that, but it's so true. Being a mother is absolutely the toughest job that I've ever had. But also the most rewarding.
My 3 year old woke me up this Mother's Day morning (not too early thanks to my husband) and my son said "Happy Birthday mommy. We got you a big ring." Well, that certainly brought a smile to my face. Of course, it's not my birthday and they didn't get me a "big ring" but I did have a beautiful bracelet waiting for me.
So I'm throwing out a Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful moms out there reading. Enjoy it!

Super Model(s)
My senior photography has been described as different, unique, and artistic...and that's fine by me. I tend to stay away from stuffy, lifeless portraits and focus on creating vibrant, spirited images that showcase personality.
It helps that my senior models were simply amazing! I love the variety we achieved: from the girl next door sweetheart look to images worthy of gracing the cover of any fashion magazine. My models are THE best!

Beautiful Baby Boy

So it's April, and the ground is covered with at least a few inches of snow! But it is Michigan and I just adore newborns, so my drive this morning was definitely worthwhile.

This beautiful baby boy has the sweetest disposition. His session was a dream…literally. Little B slept so well, let me move him around, and even smiled for a click of the shutter or two. And isn’t that a great head of hair!

However, I think big sis thought I was the paparazzi. With a little patience and some help from Oreo cookies, we sweet-talked some incredibly charming expressions out of her.

Gearing Up

At Tonya Marie Photography, we are gearing up for the busy season which starts now through the end of November (no sessions will be scheduled in December with the exception of newborns). We already have lots of high school seniors, beach sessions. and babies, babies, babies scheduled. Seems we have lots of baby boys due this year and I can’t wait!

A Breath of Fresh Air

Aren’t you ready for winter to be over? Well, today’s session was such a breath of fresh air. Lots of fun color, a fantastic house, and two kids who just can’t possibly get any cuter! Miss S has such a quiet and calm curiosity and Mr. C is a bundle of energy...I think their personalities really shine through is these amazing images we captured.

A Little Personality Please
This little cutie pie has no shortage of personality. Miss A is full of spunk, energy, and life. The first two images are something I’ve wanted to create for quite some time. In fact, the concept has been scribbled down in my idea notebook for over a year. So I was excited to see if finally come together. The bright, punchy color almost makes the dreary winter weather seem like a distant memory...almost.

On a more personal note, my family and I will be moving. We aren’t sure exactly where and we aren’t sure when, but we will definitely be staying in west Michigan. I am very happy to say that I will still be able to work with all of my present clients. I will continue working with clients almost all over southwest Michigan including: Grand Rapids, South Haven, Kalamazoo, Portage, Battle Creek and now all the way south to Sturgis. My schedule for this spring and summer is already starting to fill up, especially weekends. So if you’ve been meaning to call or email regarding a session, now is a great time to do it.

Drum Roll Please…
We’ve received hundreds of votes for the Image of the Year Contest. Everyone was so sweet with their compliments, and I definitely enjoyed the flowers and chocolates…okay, kidding about the last two. So drum roll…

Image of the Year Contest
2006 was a great year: we captured so many amazing images. All of you have been absolutely wonderful to work with. Thank you for such a successful year!

Friendship Isn’t A Big Thing…
It’s a million little things. And I’d say these two are about as close as sisters.
This was a speedy little session as I’m trying out my new studio light. Yes, that’s right; I finally had enough of the long dark winter Michigan is known for. Now I will be able to have sessions on even the dreariest days, in the evenings, and I’ll still have the portability to allow for travel to your home.

It's The Most Wonderful Time
Of the year! Spending time with family is always the highlight of the holidays for me. Baking kiss cookies, a night out at Shakespeare's, and opening mountains of presents in our pajamas are a few of our family traditions. Feels Like 12*F
Who says that it has to be sunny and warm to have great outdoor portraits? Definitely not me! But bundle up so you don’t freeze. Add some fun hats, mittens, and scarves and we have the makings of a unique session. Miss E and I had a great time in the snow. And aren’t those freckles adorable!

More with Miss A
Miss A came to my loft studio (and I use the word studio loosely) today. I just love the strands of hair that are starting to curl up. Mom tried to tame them down but I was secretly hoping they wouldn’t.
So which version do you prefer? The horizontal, the vertical or the close crop?

And I was quick enough to snap one frame of her standing. She's such a doll!

Turkey and Stuff
Let me start off by wishing everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you are able to truly enjoy the day. I know I’ll be making the effort to slow down and savor the special moments with my family. I will be out of the office for the better part of this week. However, lots and lots of orders were placed in the wee hours of last night to keep up with the holiday rush.

**Card and portrait orders need to be place by Wednesday, November 22 in order to guarantee holiday delivery.

**No new sessions are being scheduled for the remainder of 2006. The exception is newborns under 14 day’s old.

And I just want to say a special thanks to all of my clients. Every one of you has been amazing to work with. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and your families. I have the best clients. Thank you!

Wild Wheels
I don't know anything about bikes...well, except they are fun to ride on. But this one sure is a show stopper. Look at the chrome (I sure hope that's what it's called...hey, I did say I don't know anything about bikes, didn't I?) sparkle. And the paint color is just radiant. This session was a blast!

Hey Y’All
Or is it hey you guys? Well, which ever version you prefer, I had the best time in Texas. I met some amazing families who were so fun to work with, so welcoming, and…well, have you ever seen this many gorgeous people?

This little cutie pie was fast and such a doll. We certainly did have a few good laughs...don't you just love the warmth of this image.

The boys in this image are such a blast! I’m positive they keep mom and dad on their toes. Do you see how the little guy is standing on mom’s feet to be as tall as his brother. And what’s this I hear about red boots?

The eyes of Texas are upon you. And we can see why with such a beautiful and sweet family!

This family rocks! Even the dogs have great eye contact…oh, and I had so much fun photographing my friend Miss C on Dad’s show stopping bike. I will try to add one with the bike later this week.

I had the pleasure of photographing this future heartbreaker as a newborn. I was surprised to see how much he has grown in the last few months. Just look at that smile!

SpongeBob and SweetTarts: that’s what it took to get this cutie patootie to warm up to me. I think mom was a little concerned we didn’t get anything…no worries at all! And he’s so photogenic.

Oh, and if anyone wants to send up an enchilada and a margarita from Chuy's, I can give you my address! Yummy.

Someone Twisted My Arm

Five Star Family
What a wonderful family session. We visited a scenic park (the weather finally cooperated!) and then headed back the family’s home for some indoor portraits. Mom and Dad were so great to work with. And the boys are exceedingly handsome. Aren’t the results spectacular.

What A Charmer
How adorable is this cutie with the brightest blue eyes, contagious laughter, and charming personality. She literally had us cracking up at the beginning of the session with her silly antics, great smiles (yes, we did get some, but I can’t show everything here!), and funny expressions. Major Milestones
I love working on location as a photographer (the image below was actually set up at my client's house in their garage) . There is always something new and fresh to photograph. And sometimes I’m even lucky enough to witness major milestones. This little guy decided to take his first steps while I was there. How amazing is that!

This little guy is almost a year old; not quite walking, but he sure can move fast! And just look at those big baby blues. His mom had the most adorable clothes selected for the session. Fleeting Moments
Wrinkly pink skin. Ten tiny toes. Tightly curled fingers.
Capture those fleeting moments before baby loses that snugly newborn look. I highly recommend you schedule your session within the first two weeks…even better within the first seven days of baby’s new life. This is especially important to capture the sleeping baby images that everyone adores. And to make it easier on the new parents, I will bring the studio to you. That’s right; you don’t even have to leave the house.

And how cute this little sweetie? He wasn't too excited about sleeping for us, but we were patient and I captured some amazing images.

According to a Three Year Old
Eating popsicles before lunch, waving at the garbage man on a Thursday morning and making funny faces for the photographer are all very good things. And who am I to argue? I love popsicles (especially the red ones) and adore silly faces. And if you are patient enough and fast enough with the shutter release, you can capture those silly faces and those moments that melt your heart.

Lucky Me
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph Miss A at 6 months and again at 9 months. And what a doll she is. Do you see those big brown saucers? And that perfect complexion? In this image you can even see some of her freshly sprouted teeth. The grow up so fast don’t they.

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do to get the shot. And it was so worth the wet tennis shoes for this breath taking image. Miss J was such a sweetie to work with. Great listener. Beautiful eyes. She made my job a pleasure.

And this little cutie, well, lets just say I bet she was hoping for a hot bath. The morning air was chilly. Pretty atypical for an August day. Miss N was a mover and a shaker. But she draws you right in with those big piercing eyes.

She's Going To Be An Artist

This was the very last shot of the morning. It started raining as soon as I depressed the shutter release: just a light drizzle to stomp out the last of the lingering fog. Which I love shooting in. The mood. The lighting. Ahhh, perfection. Just like this image of Miss M.

This image was from earlier in the session. She just finished drawing in the sand. She said she’s going to be an artist.

Spunk & Sparkle
This little girl is so just full of life and ready to take on the world. And I think this image reflects that.
On a side note, this image was taken in a garage. You might not have guessed that because I used a very shallow depth of field. I did this by opening up the apeture of my camera to effectively blur the background while keeping the subject in sharp focus.

Back To Add One More...
I'm busy trying to catch up from being on vacation (and yes, my previous entry really was at 1:14 am...isn't that when the brain is the most creative? or is it the time when kids are asleep and I have minimal distractions?) but I had to come back and add one more image to show off K's incredible eyes. They were the first thing I noticed when I met K...a rich amber color. He says no one comments on them except for his mom and I have a hard time believing that one!
